For more than 100 years, Iwachu has been manufacturing beautiful cast iron objects.
Iwachu Company started in 1902. The founder is Iwashimizu.
The name of the company is the combination of his family name and cast iron in Japanese 'chutetsu'.
Each Iwachu teapot is made following a handcrafted process with more than 60 steps, summarized:
- Interior and exterior moulds are prepared
- Molten iron is poured into the mould
- Once cooled, the mould is broken, the teapot is removed and the edges are filed
- The interior part is enamelled
- The exterior surface is painted
- Once dry, it is packaged carefully
The Japanese cast iron teapot is an outstanding teapot with ancient roots dating back to the 1600's.
